Features of South Hedland
The revitalisation of South Hedland has narrowed the perceived gap between Port Hedland and South Hedland, providing a range of diverse accommodation options.
One of the key principals of the Master Plan is based on 'Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design'. This provides the opportunity to support personal safety by providing effective lighting, improved signage and clear sightlines; fostering a sense of pride and community ownership by maintaining public open spaces; that have higher levels of activity by accommodating a variety of users.
New connector roads are being introduced throughout the estate to improve road connectivity and ease of navigation. The increased traffic permeability improves the passive surveillance of both residential lots, and public spaces.
High quality parks and public spaces have been built within South Hedland including the Shay Gap Park which features shading, seating, play equipment, barbecue facilities and more.
Works have commenced on the multi-million dollar Marquee Park with the Department of Housing. South Hedland New Living Project being a major contributor. In addition to picnic and barbecue areas, playground equipment, kick about area and landscaped areas the park will include two water play areas with interactive water features. These are designed for both entertainment and cooling with the aim to encourage people outdoors, despite the hot Pilbara climate.
These parks play important roles as central 'hubs' and meeting points for the community.
South Hedland New Living projects is continuing to develop and rationalise land in South Hedland and will potentially develop 1000 lots.
Residents are now looking at South Hedland asa a desirable residential address, rather than short term.
